Membership on a technical committee on the Institute carries with it an obligation to participate actively in the work of the committee through contribution of technical information, prompt reply to requests for ballots or comments on draft committee reports, attendance at committee meetings, and review of papers submitted for publication in the Journal of Structural Engineering. Committee members are chosen as individuals, not as representatives of industries or groups. The most important criteria are personal experience and ability.
