Dynamic EffectsPurpose:To study and evaluate the magnitude of dynamic forces and their effect upon the behavior of structures. Seismic Effects Purpose: To foster research and practice in the behavior of structures subjected to earthquakes and application of research results to problems in analysis and design of structures, including buildings, offshore structures, concrete dams, storage tanks, and bridges.
Purpose: To review the various supplemental damping systems that have demonstrated considerable potential through analytical studies, experimental testing and actual implementation in projects. A publication that will familiarize structural engineers with techniques and procedure for evaluating, modeling, and recommending such systems for particular seismic design or retrofit projects will be developed. Purpose: To study and evaluate the magnitude and effects of shock and impulsive loadings (other than wind or seismic) on structures and their components, and to formulate design criteria and methods to provide adequate resistance or relief from their effects. Subcommittee on Design for Physical Security Purpose: To investigate and recommend to the Committee additional projects or activities in response to the publication of the Task Committee Report, Structural Design for Physical Security - State of the Practice Report. Wind Effects Purpose: To re-examine, improve and disseminate present knowledge, and to enlighten the engineering profession on the subject of wind forces on structures, and the response of structures to those wind forces; to attempt to clarify, coordinate and unify wind design provisions of national and local building codes. Information will be disseminated through ASCE Journal papers and conferences. Subcommittee on Wind-Induced Motion Perception Criteria for Tall Buildings Purpose: To prepare a state-of-the-art report that examines the effects of wind-induced motions on building occupants and recommends minimum requirements needed to ensure acceptable performance. Subcommittee on Computer-Aided Wind Engineering Purpose: To encourage the use of modern computing technologies and tools in wind engineering. To provide a means to report and interface with wind engineering practitioners on application and use of new computing technologies, including object oriented programming, expert systems, neural networks, logic programming, and the emerging new area of computational wind engineering.
